1758 King James Bible1758 KING JAMES BIBLE NEW TESTAMENT printed by Thomas Baskett

1758 New Testament printed in London by Thomas Baskett and by the assigns of Robert Baskett. Appears to be complete with the exception of front end sheets, page edges ruffled and protruding from loose binding, original boards (both attached, front board by just one string), not much left of spine leather, some pages folded and creased but overall pages are quite clean, this is an excellent candidate for a rebind with a new period leather covering.

It measures approx. 5 inches x approx. 8 inches x approx. 1 1/2 inches.

* – John Baskett was successful in many aspects of his printing work. Using the presses in Oxford and London he was able to achieve economies of scale, storing large amounts of printed paper in his London warehouses. He also used local labor, again reducing costs. By 1712, John Baskett was now the Royal Printer to the Queen, and he had successfully negotiated deals with Oxford and Cambridge (the only other two printing houses authorized to print the Bible in England) to operate their printing privileges himself.
