1776 The Immaculate Bible

This is a RARE 1776 “Immaculate Bible” printed by JW Pasham London containing OT & NT w/notes.
Leather bound with 5 raised bands. Inscription ” CL Tootell ” on fly page. Engraved title page by Is. Taylor. A table of Time, Weights & Measures, Money, and Offices in-between Testaments. Gold gilding.

Measures approx. 4 1/2 inches tall, approx. 2 5/8 inches wide, approx. 1 5/8 inches deep.

Very good condition. Front board is split but held intact and has scuffing. Some light browning to pages. Text is crisp, clear, and easy to read. No notes remain, but the word “Notes” can be seen on some pages. This is a very well preserved copy of a rare Bible.

This is a quote from “A History of the Old English Letter Foundries” by Talbot Baines Reed · 1887:
John William Pasham, originally of Bury St. Edmund’s, where he published the Bury Flying Weekly Journal. He removed to Blackfriars in London, where in 1776 he published a beautiful pocket edition of the Bible in 24mo, which obtained the title of the Immaculate Bible, on account of the rarity of its errors. It had foot-notes which could be cut off in the binding if required. Of this Bible, Lemoine says ‘it is spoil by being dried in a kiln, which has entirely changed the colour of the paper ; besides, the colour of the print is uneven, one side being darker than the other.’ This Bible is said to have been printed in a house on Finchley Common. Mr. Pasham died Dec. 1783.See: https://www.google.com/books/edition/A_History_of_the_Old_English_Letter_Foun/oFSM49so-uwC?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=%22Immaculate%20Bible%22%201776
