A large Danish or Swedish Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments, along with the Apocrypha. This Bible contains the celebrated illustrations of Gustave Doré. The brilliant artist originally designed the 241 wood engravings for a French Bible in 1843, but this particular Danish Bible was published in 1890. Brown full leather covers and spine with gold lettering, decorative gilt stamped designs. Five raised bands on the spine. Gilt page edges. Beautiful woodcut illustrations throughout. Color plates with tissue-guards. Gothic type font. Page for writing owner’s name is blank. Back of book has cardboard pages for photographs. Covers and spine rubbed in places, corners worn. Front board slightly loose at bottom, cloth tape has been applied to inside, one loose page but attached. Minimal browning. Type and illustrations are crisp and clear, good margins. Text body is clean and free from underlining, highlighting, or notes. A beautiful nineteenth century Danish Bible in very good condition. The illustrations are gorgeous.
