1615 GENEVA ENGLISH Breeches BIBLE
The Geneva Bible is one of the most historically significant translations of the Bible into English, preceding the King James Version by 51 years. It was the primary Bible of 16th-century English Protestantism and was used by William Shakespeare, Oliver Cromwell, John Knox, John Donne, and John Bunyan, author of The Pilgrim’s Progress (1678). It was one of the Bibles taken to America on the Mayflower.
A 1615 GENEVA BIBLE. Written on fly page: “This Bible Reign of Elizabeth, Famous Geneva Bible. The first Bible that laid aside the old black letters for the present Roman type. It was also the first to recognize the divisions into verses and the first to omit the Apocrypha (Apocrypha is included in this Bible). It omits the name of St Paul from the epistle to the Hebrews and it uses italics for all words not included in the original”.
